West Boca Chamber urges road name change for Winikoff

Published June 26th, 2008

FROM STAFF REPORTS

At the suggestion of Loggers Run President and West Boca Chamber member Frank Barbieri, the board of directors of the West Boca Chamber of Commerce is urging the County Commission to rename Oriole Country Road in West Boca Jeff Winikoff Boulevard in honor of the jurist who passed away last week.

Known as the unofficial “Mayor” of West Boca, Winikoff served as president of the West Boca Community Council for many years.

“There is no other tribute fitting this outstanding community leader than to have a well-known and traveled street named after Jeff,” said West Boca Chamber chair Tom Kruse. Oriole Country Road runs from 441 to Glades Road. He said few, if any, businesses or residents would be affected by the name change.

The Chamber will send a letter to the County Commission urging the designation be made along with other community organizations expected to sign on to the proposal.

In addition, the Chamber board welcomed Armand Guynup, vice president and general manager of Al Hendrickson Toyota, to the board, along with Jason Toland, manager of Lowe’s Building Supplies and Bob Geller, Met Life.

In other business, the board approved the creation of a political action committee to be able to endorse candidates, and elected Wendy Rosano, owner of Cucina Mio and Kathryn Van Brocklin, manager of Mercantile Bank, as vice chairs of the Chamber.

Guynup also volunteered to chair a Chamber golf tournament to raise funds for the PAC.
